Britain's one-and-only Nottingham hasn't been left out of the month-long insanity that is NaNoWriMo.
The group started meeting in 2003 in the fantastically eerie Pit and Pendulum in Nottingham City Centre. In that first year, the largest group we managed to assemble was about eight people.
In 2004 we moved to the Malt Cross on St. James's Street as even in our small group we struggled to all fit around tables. This was also the year we got our own region and forum, "Europe :: England :: Nottingham", rather than being a thread in the England :: Elsewhere forum.
We left the Malt Cross in 2015 and have moved around alternative venues that can cater to the group's size, including The Roebuck and The Bell Inn, The Pit and Pendulum (again) and a large chunk of 2017 at The Roebuck.
We have now found a new home at The Old Boston Coffee Shop, who kindly allow us to use their basement for events, and the amount of plugs available mean we can finally encourage writers to bring their laptops and comfortably hold write-ins on the Saturday meets during November.
Currently the monthly meetups are being held on the first Saturday of every month at The Old Boston Coffee Shop, 15 Middle Pavement, Nottingham.
From the Broadmarsh's Middle Pavement exit (up from Paperchase), turn right and walk uphill. The Old Boston Coffee Shop is on your right.
Alternatively, from the Broadmarsh's Lister Gate exit (turn right at Boots, walk through the automatic doors), walk uphill and turn right at Marks & Spencer. Walk up past the Broadmarsh's exit and, as above, The Old Boston Coffee Shop is on your right.
Meets usually begin at around 11am and can carry on until 2pm-4pm—although if you want to attend later or leave earlier, don't let that put you off joining us for however long you prefer.
